Black History Month is an annual observance for remembrance of important people and events in the history of the African diaspora. In 2016 we mark Black History Month with a programme of events that focus on RACE@LSHTM and ask the questions: What Do We Teach? How Do We Research? Who Do We Employ?

Black on the Sofa: Pathways to Success for Black People at the School

The “On the Sofa” series, launched in the School in 2014, is an opportunity for colleagues to ‘sit on the sofa’ and reflect on their own professional journey: what they think lies behind a successful career; the steps they have taken to progress; the challenges they have encountered along the way; and crucially, the advice they would give to others in the pursuit of their personal, professional and career development.

As part of our Black History Month @ LSHTM event programme, we talk to four black colleagues within the School to hear about how they have progressed professionally, both within their specific areas and in higher education. They will share their perspectives on diversity in the workplace and the role of the School in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion. There will also be an opportunity for a Q&A with the audience.

Details

The session will be begin with brief ‘back story’ presentations from each guest, followed by a panel discussion and Q&A with the audience.
